Earth
Our ocean-covered home is the only world currently known to support life. Its atmosphere and magnetic field help protect the surface.

Atmosphere
Mostly nitrogen and oxygen
Earth’s atmosphere is approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen.
Illustrative models, not real-time astronomical observations. Sizes, spacing, surface patterns and rotations are not to scale. Earth uses composite satellite imagery; other surfaces are procedurally illustrated.

The atmosphere that makes a world
Earth’s atmosphere moderates temperature and supports the water cycle. The lower troposphere contains most weather, the stratosphere contains the ozone layer, and the upper atmosphere gradually merges into space. The glowing edge in the explorer is a visual illustration, not a scale model of atmospheric thickness.
